The Lana Pollack papers have been divided into six series: ANN ARBOR BOARD OF EDUCATION; MICHIGAN SENATE; CAMPAIGNS; PHOTOGRAPHS; VIDEOTAPES; AND AUDIOTAPES. The collection documents diverse aspects of Pollack's legislative and political activities. ANN ARBOR BOARD OF EDUCATION (.25 linear ft.; 1979-1982) consists of correspondence, notes and clippings from Pollack's first elective office. Of particular interest are notes and background materials relating to the controversy over the teaching of "Black English" in Ann Arbor public schools. MICHIGAN SENATE (7.75 linear ft.; 1982-1994) includes correspondence, speeches, memoranda, clippings and schedules which document the many issues and responsibilities Pollack dealt with during her years as a state senator. The series is divided into subseries: Constituent Case Files; Fundraising; Speech Files; Legislation and Amendments Introduced by LP; Organization Files; Subject Files; Correspondence; and Office Administration. The Organizaion Files document relations between Pollack, her staff, and various public and private organizations in the Eighteenth District. The subseries is divided into four sections: Washtenaw County, Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, and the University of Michigan. The bulk of the Subject Files are arranged alphabetically into topics for which Pollack sponsored legislation, or which were of special interest to her. Pollack's staff kept a complete run of press clippings about the senator in a binder which is part of the Office Administration subseries. CAMPAIGNS (7 linear ft.; 1982-1994) are arranged by campaign, in chronological order, and include correspondence, memoranda, polls, and financial records. The series documents the many facets of political campaigning, particularly organization, strategy, staffing and fundraising. Campaign literature and extensive files about Pollack's opponents are included in the series, as well as polls of prospective voters which were commissioned for the 1988 and 1994 campaigns.
